Thermal Glue

How do I know whether power connections on the motherboard are propoer ?

I use Intel DG965RY Board assembled PC. There is a tiny bulb that on the motherboard that glows to show that power is being supplied to the board. However, this lamp glows even when only the UPS is powered on - and not the computer ! Is this normal ? Should the motherboard receive power without the power button on the tower pressed ?

  1. All computers have a trickle of power even when off. You would have to completely kill the power to the computer for that little light to go off. Don't worry about it. From the website shown below: <The standby power of a computer monitor, however, only costs about $3 a year when the computer is shut down nights and weekends. However, if the computer's "sleep" function is used, the power costs $41 a year for those nights and weekends -- almost as much as the $57 a year it costs to run the computer just on weekdays.>
  2. Yes This is not unlike a TV in stand by mode. To completely dispell all power from the computer you would have to unplug all power cables from the computer or switch it off at the wall socket.
