How do I find out what kind of socket my dead motherboard has?

I want to replace my motherboard and I don't know what kind of motherboard I need since I don't know what socket it has. I can't download anything because my computer won't turn on.

1. changing mother board is a major issue , it depends what kind of processor you have and what kind of RAM u have from Old PC and other peripherals better suggestion is buy new PC, sell the old one to any one who can cannibalize
2. Im assuming that you bought a computer from someone like dell, hp, gateway, emachine, etc. So go to their webpage and under support it will have product info, put in your computer information and it will surely have something with the motherboard in there.
3. You can find your motherboard socket from your cpu. Also you can find your motherboard model hacked in its surface and then call its company.
