How do I find out what motherboard I have and what harddrives are compatible?

I want to get a new harddrive but my motherboard is quite old and I don't know what type it is. How do I find what type of motherboard I have and whether the harddrives are I want to buy are compatible?

1. you can download SIW http://www.gtopala.com/ which is a system information tool. You can then go to the "motherboard" section under "hardware" and it'll tell you which motherboard you have. As far as hdd, you're only going to have 2 options. 1. IDE and 2. SATA
2. ermm do u know wat ur doin u realise u cant just swap hard drives about u have to reinstall ur os if u just want more space buy an external there quite cheap try this site www.ebuyer.com anyway most hdds are sata so they all work usally if unsure get somone qualifyed to check it out
